December 2010, my friend Mmapula (Megan) and I met with a group of knitters (called the knit wits) at the Rolling Hills Community Church in Lago Vista, Texas. They had just prayed over a parcel they were sending to knit-a-square in South Africa.

February 2011, traveled to Johannesburg and picked up two parcels from the knit wits.

An outreach team from YWAM Orlando sewed the knitted squares together to make ten individual blankets. The knit wits from Texas attached a prayer for each blanket "may the one who receives these squares be cradled in hope, kept in joy, graced with peace, and wrapped in love."

Volunteers in the community Dwaleni, identified ten single (lost one parent) or double (lost both parents) orphans to receive these blankets. Togo, one of the volunteers we work with, took us to the primary school where we distributed the blankets. Before presenting the blankets we explained that each blanket symbolized God's love for them and they were prayed for and loved by all the women who made the blankets. Here are some of the beautiful faces in Dwaleni....
Figile, age 13

Matente, age 10

Betty, age 5

Betty is just too cute!

Themba, age 13

Mcedisi, age 9

Wiseman, age 15

Banele, age 7

Nandi, age 10

Phin, age 6

Togo and the nine children from the school

Last but not least, Thembelinhle age 12

Despite the heat, a few of these children wore the blankets around their shoulders on the walk to the feeding program later that day. With winter coming in a couple of months, they will need these blankets! Thank you to the knit wits of Rolling Hills Community Church, the YWAM Orlando outreach team, and knit-a-square! It was a special day and it's a blessing to partner with you!!
Thanks to all who worked on the squares and those who sewed them together. And thanks for seeing that the squares were made into blankets and delivered to those who can use them, Keri, and for documenting it for all of us to be inspired! Especially thanks for continuing to work toward making the world a better place. I know it isn't always easy and I know we don't tell you often enough, but we love and appreciate you! Come back to see us soon!!
